Our learning goal for this workshop is for you to begin or expand upon a daily visual practice. For those beginning their journey this will be a hands-on, engaging immersion into creativity and sketchbook techniques. For those continuing their visual journal practice it will be an opportunity to explore varieties of creative expression and experiment with different mixed media applications, techniques and methods. You will leave this Series workshop with a renewed artistic confidence and a reignited sense of the value of your own daily sketchbook routine.
We will explore creativity, brain-boosting activities and visual problem-solving techniques each day. Beginning with drawing and collage we will work towards mixed media, layering, figure/ground relationships, image transfers and resolved mixed media composition. We will explore ink in its variety of forms from calligraphy to washes and in-between. We will spend a day exploring ink and watercolour, watercolour sketching and urban sketching. Other components of the workshop include critique and talking about art, varieties of sketchbooks and visual journals, discussions about art supplies and travel kits, exploring watercolour techniques, music and art, the role of art history as a source of images and art as a subversive activity. Most of all, students should come with a set of goals that they are prepared to articulate.
Mike has a depth of art teaching knowledge and experience that will allow him to tailor this workshop to meet your personal vision. Come prepared to explore, experiment and have fun.
