Working with various papers, fabrics, glues, paint and board, participants will quickly learn how to bind loose pages into decoratively stitched notebooks and personalized covered journals. A variety of both traditional and contemporary bookbinding techniques will be taught, enabling students to create cohesively themed, one-of-a-kind artist books using text, images, ephemera and found materials on painted or collaged backgrounds. Beginning with a side-bound soft cover journal to more sophisticated pamphlets and finally to a hardcover journal, we will also be exploring many options to incorporate re-purposed and/or unusual materials in addition to commercial papers and materials. Students can expect to make a minimum of 6 different book structures over the course of the week.
