Red Deer College is offering a new pathway for English as Second Language learners who would like to work as a Health Care Aide. Funding is available for the entire 52-week program. Funding includes tuition, books, supplies and a Government of AB living allowance for eligible students. Leaners who are eligible for funding include new Canadian Citizens, new Canadian Permanent Residents, or approved Canadian Refugee status individuals.
The English as a Second Language to Heath Care Aide pathway aims to assist learners completing ESL Level 1
and ESL Level 2
to meet a Canadian Language Benchmark 7 to move into the Health Care Aide portion of the pathway. The ESL portion of the program is the first 14 weeks and the Health Care Aide program is 36 weeks for a 52-week program.
The English language course will use elements of health care in Canada for reading, writing, and grammar. Learners will be required to use computers regularly for classwork and assignments.
Classes are 3 days on campus and 2 days online for the ESL portion. All learners must present proof of completing a Canadian Language Benchmark 5.5 average score with no band lower than a Canadian Language Benchmark 5 (or equivalent).
Upon successful completion of the ESL portion learners will proceed into the Health Care Aide programing which includes class, lab and clinical placements. Learning will be on campus, online, and in care facilities. Learners must meet health and safety requirements for clinical practice.
Program begins March 22, 2021 and completes March 21, 2022. Only 16 seats are available for this program.
